State Representative Susan King told a room full of supporters Monday that she is the most qualified person to serve in Senate District 24 in part because of her experience working as the chairman of the House Defense and Veteran’s Affairs Committee.
King made her announcement at the Center For Contemporary Arts in downtown Abilene. She’s the seventh person to announce for the senate seat currently held by incumbent Troy Fraser. The district stretches nearly 250 miles covering parts of 17 counties.
The five-term Republican State Representative said if elected, she would work to improve public education, secure the border and maintain a safe water supply for the future.
“It’s also important to give real ideas, not rhetoric,” King said. “Sometimes when people run for political office people think, ‘well what is that, is that real or is that rhetoric?’ So I pledge to you to always give what I believe is the real situation.”
King committed to holding town hall meetings in in every county of the district, she also said she also has big plans for the district as a whole.
“I envision regional collaboration between the senate and the house, which you don’t always see,” King said.
King admitted serving such a large district will be difficult because of the traveling but she dared anyone to challenge her energy and stamina.
