Austin Police Officer Anthony Martin was honored today (Tuesday) in a funeral procession throughout Abilene as his body was escorted to the Texas State Veterans Cemetery. Officer Anthony Martin died on September 23rd from injuries sustained in a motorcycle crash while he was on highway patrol in Liberty Hill, Texas.

Before becoming an Austin police officer, Martin was a member of the Abilene community where he lived while serving in the United States Air Force at Dyess Air Force base. The Abilene Police Department invited the community to pay their respects along the procession route.

Former militaryman Larry Cox and his wife Sharon were among the crowd, while their son, an Abilene Police Officer, stood as part of the honor guard. Sharon said they know how much families give to have their loved one serve in the police force or military, “Everyone pays. The least we can do is stand here.”

Members of the Austin community joined locals in honoring officer Martin.
