Community honors Martin Luther King Jr. with annual march

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day members of the Abilene community gathered for the annual march across the Martin Luther King Jr. Bridge.

Hillcrest Church of Christ Minister Nathan Burrows prayed over the participants before the march began. He emphasized the importance of unity and thanked God for those who showed up despite the cold weather, “Seeing the young people here, we ask that you would bless us for generations now and to come, to continue to strive and do the work of bringing people together, overcoming the differences of race and prejudice and all differences God, that you could make us one people."

The Abilene Black Chamber of Commerce will celebrate its 31st annual Martin Luther King Jr. Banquet at the Abilene Convention Center wrapping up the annual celebratory events at 6PM.
