Lightning strikes north east Abilene, near the KACU studio, taken from the roof of the Wooten Hotel Apartments by iPhone.

After suffering a NE Abilene lighting strike and the resulting EMP ( electro-magnetic pulse) that damaged KACU's digital STL (station transmitter link) this past Sunday night, KACU returned to the braodcast airwaves about 12:30 PM Tuesday afternoon.  KACU was able to replace the STL with a loaner unit from the manufacturer by overnight shipping.  During the time the station has had this broadcast outage, it has continued to provide all of its broadcast content through the internet stream on www.kacu.org.  This stream is available from a computer or from any type of mobile device through the NPR listener app or the Public Radio Listener app.  KACU appreciates our listeners patience during this outage.  We have enjoyed talking to our listeners as they have called, wondering wher we were.  KACU, AbilenePublicRadio is the only public radio station providing NPR, American Public Media and the BBC programming between Dallas/Fort Worth and the the Midland/Odessa area for the past 26 years.
