Proposed design for the new Memorial Park at Dyess Elementary School

Abilene ISD is seeking help from residents in selecting names to appear on a new memorial wall at the memorial park the district is creating at Dyess Elementary. This new park, on the property of Dyess Elementary School, will honor veterans from the school district who have passed away. The memorial wall will feature the names of graduates and employees from AISD who served in any branch of the U.S. military and passed away in the line of duty or after completing their service.

The district has placed a feedback form on its website, families or community members can provide details and information about veterans that they would like to see honored and memorialized. David Young, Superintendent says AISD needs the community’s help with this project, “The only way we know, and we want to capture every single name that is worthy of honor in this spot. We are dependent on the public to help us know who needs to be honored on that wall.”

Young said the wall will have space to add more names in the future. The district is planning a dedication ceremony at the end of this summer.
