Volunteers are working to get as many people as they can registered to vote in the upcoming election on November 8th. The voter registration deadline is Tuesday, and both the Taylor County Democratic and Republican parties are working to get people registered before time is up.

The Taylor County Democrats are holding a midnight voter registration drive, hoping to squeeze in any final applicants. Linda Perkins is a volunteer deputy registrar for the Taylor County Democratic Party. She has registered over one hundred and fifty people, and encourages people to register so they can have a voice in the election, “You don’t have a voice if you’re not registered. If you choose not to vote then that’s your choice, but at least you have a choice if you’re already registered and if there’s something that comes up that you want to vote, you're gonna have the opportunity to do that.”

Chairman of the Taylor County Republican Party Chris Carnohan says if you don’t register to vote you have no say in what is going on, “Not raising your hand when the time comes means you forfeited the right you’re guaranteed as an American citizen to take part in your government and in the policies it adopts and then puts into effect.”

In order to register, residents need a valid government-issued ID card. Individuals can register in person at the Taylor County Elections Office, or should get their application postmarked by the end of the day Tuesday.
