Abilene’s new convention center hotel opens

The DoubleTree by Hilton Abilene Downtown Convention Center hotel opened its doors Wednesday.

Serving the citizens of Abilene and visitors, the hotel also serves as a location for businesses to bring their conventions to Abilene. John Kukreja, general manager of DoubleTree, says the city has high expectations on how many organizations will want to bring their business to downtown Abilene, “It’s been in the making for the past 30 years. [Abilene] has lost a lot of business based on the fact that ‘hey the town doesn’t have a convention hotel."

Kukreja also said it is important that the hotel becomes part of the community in Abilene, “It’s the experience that we want you to come and enjoy. In hospitality, we provide the experience and we want the citizens of Abilene and the people around Abilene to come and feel that.”

The $80 million DoubleTree hotel will have its ribbon cutting and grand opening on July 11th.
