Democratic candidate for US Senate Thierry Tchenko is grateful for what he learned in Abilene

Samantha Gerber

A crowded field of Democrats is vying for the opportunity to challenge Ted Cruz in 2024. McMurry alum Thierry Tchenko is a first-time candidate with a desire to take his passion for Texas to Washington DC.

He was inspired to run by what he learned during a series of interviews with Texans after last year’s midterm elections. He credits his time in Abilene for giving him an understanding of West Texas and a connection to its people. Tchenko came to KACU while he was in town to deliver the convocation this week at McMurry.
