Organizers of HSU’s Hispanic Heritage Fiesta rushed to collect the decorations as students headed for their dorms.
While it lasted, the fiesta was a vibrant gathering on HSU’s Anderson Lawn, one of several events planned to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month. Music played over a loudspeaker and people danced, talked, and played games. Tables were spread out across the lawn so guests could enjoy a meal together, and a serving table was set up by the sidewalk with drinks, cookies, and freshly grilled meat for fajitas. Just before the incoming storm broke up the party guests took turns hitting a star-shaped pinata.
The fiesta was the final event HSU scheduled to observe Hispanic Heritage Month. The school also scheduled special chapel speakers, soccer games, and a Zumba event.
