Big Country Veterans Day Parade held early to include Dyess personnel

The National Anthem and a flyover helped kick off the Big Country Veterans Day Parade Saturday in downtown Abilene. Organizers set the date of this year’s parade early so that Dyess personnel could attend.

317th Airlift Wing vice commander Steven Wicks says that as an active duty service member, he is grateful for those who have served before him, “It's because I stand on the shoulders of giants that I'm able to do what I do, and it's obvious that those who came before did great things because again, we have such great support. And that comes from a constant lineage and heritage of good service.”

Wicks joined other active duty military members and veterans as well as the community to see the marching bands, floats, and high-waving American flags featured in Saturday’s Parade. Veteran’s Day will be observed nationally on November 11th.
