Abilene partners with US Army to give soldiers options after discharge

City Manager Robert Hanna signs the agreement to partner with the PaYs Program.

The City of Abilene has formalized a partnership with the U.S. Army. The Partnership for Your Success, or PaYS Program, helps soldiers, reservists, and ROTC cadets prepare to transition to civilian life. The city says the partnership will also serve as a recruitment pipeline.

Executive Officer of the Dallas Recruiting Battalion, Captain James Hill, expressed his appreciation to Abilene for joining the PaYS program, “To see the city of Abilene commit to helping our recruits have potential if there is something they want to do on the outside, is something I appreciate. So, I just wanted to thank the city of Abilene for laying down, and you know, saying, while we signed these people up to be federal troops, they’re going to always have somewhere to come back to and possibly have a job.”

PaYS applicants must have the necessary qualifications and compete with other job seekers for positions within the city. Abilene officials say they expect PaYS applicants to help fill jobs with the police or fire departments or roles that require a commercial driver's license.
