Abilene’s bus and other public transportation fares will rise for the first time in almost a decade

Abilene is increasing ticket prices for public transportation. The city council voted today to raise City Link fees for the first time since 2016. City Link fees will increase for the fixed route, paratransit, microtransit and evening rides.
Officials will phase in he fares increases, with half of the increase going into effect on November 3 of this year and the other half on October 1, 2026.
Don Green, the transportation services director, said the new rates will help cover rising costs the city is having to pay to provide rides, “We are 9 years into the current rates and we have experienced, like everybody else has, increased costs to operate. That includes payroll, that includes maintaining the buses and the vans and the facility itself. All of our costs have gone up.“
Some residents of Abilene raised concerns about the added price of tickets for disabled community members. City Council members did not respond to the concerns before taking the vote.
