In one of the most renowned plays of the American theater, Blanche DuBois, a schoolteacher from Mississippi, arrives in New Orleans and takes a streetcar named “Desire“ to the French Quarter, where her sister, Stella, and Stella’s husband, Stanley Kowalski, live barely above squalor. Blanche’s affectations of refinement set her immediately at odds with blue-collar Stanley, who is further incensed when he learns his wife’s aristocratic inheritance—the family estate—has been forfeited to creditors. As Stanley disdains and demeans Blanche, she fights back in the only way she knows: with her genteel femininity. The Kowalskis’ Elysian Fields apartment becomes a pressure cooker of sensuality and class tensions, until ultimately erupting in some of the most iconic dramatic moments seen on the modern stage.
Winner of the 1948 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award for Best American Play.

We are supporting the biennial Lone Star Circle of Life Bike Tour, and this year they are making a stop in Abilene on November 5th! Join us for an inspiring afternoon as the LSCOL Bike Tour makes its way across Texas to raise awareness for life-saving donations. This six-day tour features a team of 12 dedicated cyclists who ride to honor individuals impacted by organ, tissue, blood, marrow, and stem cell donation. In every city along the way, the team rides into an event and each cyclist dedicates their ride to one honoree; sharing their story to raise awareness and connecting with honorees and their families.
At this year’s stop in Abilene, hosted in partnership with Southwest Transplant Alliance (STA), you’ll hear powerful personal stories and meet the honorees and the cyclists riding in their honor. The event will take place at McMurry University at "The Backyard" and is open to the public. Guests should arrive by 3:15 to cheer the team when they arrive. The team will ride in at 3:30.
This event is FREE and open to the public and aims to educate our community on the importance of donation. We welcome you to come out and show your support for these incredible riders and the lives they’re celebrating!
