Women entrepreneurs have an opportunity to tap into funds that will help start or build their Texas-based businesses. Starting on September 22, women-owned businesses in Texas can apply for a grant from The Texas Woman’s University Center for Entrepreneurs.

The center will award 20 “StartHer” grants worth five-thousand dollars each. These grants are intended to help both businesses that are already started and businesses that are still in the ideation phase.

According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, in 20-21, 43% of businesses in Texas were women-owned.

Tracy Irby, the Director of the Center for Women Entrepreneurs, says funding is typically difficult for a woman startup, but these grants can help out in many different ways. “With these funds, they can purchase machinery or technology for their business. We’ve had someone actually even purchase a new vehicle for their trailer.”

The online application will close at 5 p.m. on October 22. The grant winners will be announced on November 1.
