New VA community facility opens in Big Spring Thursday

The West Texas Veteran Health Care System will open a Small House Community Center in Big Spring on Thursday.

This new structure is the second building in a planned complex of five. In the new space, Veterans will have access to an activities room, a movie room, a barber shop, and a cafe. The Community Center also provides 24-hour care to veterans living in the house.

Micheal J. Cole, The Public Affairs Officer for the West Texas VA Healthcare System says he is excited about the community’s shared enthusiasm for the grand opening of this new community center, “We’re all just so proud to be here. We have the greatest mission there is in the federal government, taking care of our vets and I look forward to the community coming out and supporting our grand opening on Thursday. It’s always a great time to see our community partners and have them come join us.”

The VA expects to complete the five-building complex in 2028. The Community Center currently houses 26 veterans. Once all of the buildings are complete planners say it will feature 40 individual suites.
