McMurry University will welcome its new president, Lynn Murry, when the students return from their Christmas holidays for the spring semester. McMurry selected Murry as its 11th president following the retirement of President Sandra Harper.
Under her leadership the university has focused efforts on becoming a Hispanic-serving institution, expanded partnerships with high schools to provide dual credit courses, and celebrated the school’s centennial. She also led McMurry through changes to traditional homecoming activities that some questioned as appropriation of Native American culture, the uncertainty and challenges of COVID, and a tumultuous last couple of years for the United Methodist denomination.
