Dairy Queen giving out free cones, seek donations for Children’s Miracle Network

Free Cone Day is Dairy Queen’s official welcome party for spring and the warmer weather ahead.
Customers can get a free, small vanilla cone. Some locations will charge $1 for a dipped cone. Funds from dipped cones and additional donations will go to the Children’s Miracle Network, a nonprofit organization that raises funds for 170 hospitals across the U.S. and Canada.
Whitney Crane manages two Dairy Queen locations in Abilene. She said her stores won’t charge for a dipped cone but will still encourage customers to make donations.
Donations made in Abilene will stay in Abilene.

“We mainly work with Hendrick Hospitals. So all the donations that we raise go towards buying everything for children with needs at hospitals such as Hendrick,” Crane said.
Hendrick has had a partnership with the Children’s Miracle Network since 1989.
Crane said last year, the East Ambler location gave away around 700 cones.
“At one of our other locations here in town on Mockingbird, they had the best year. And I want to say it was somewhere around 3,000. So it’s pretty awesome,” Crane said.
Most Dairy Queen locations in Abilene open at 10 a.m and close between 10 p.m and 11 p.m.
