Tap Resources For Seniors At The Senior Health Fair And Expo

The Senior Health Fair and Town Hall Meeting will be different from previous year’s events.  Organizers have moved it from the campus of ACU to the Abilene Convention center, and expanded it from a morning event to a full-day affair.  Workshops will focus on issues from financial and living concerns to topics of physical and mental health.  The event is free, except for the town hall luncheon.  Tickets to the luncheon are $4.00 for seniors and $10.00 for everyone else.  Find out more on the website.

Area Agency on Aging,
Pruett Gerontology Center at Abilene Christian University,
Retired Senior Volunteer Program at West Texas Rehabilitation Center
Rose Park Senior Center.

Sponsors have provided door prizes, to give away throughout the day. Two Grand prize drawings will be held to award the lucky winners gift cards of $300 each.

8:00 am - Free coffee and donuts

8:00 am - 4:00 pm Vendors with a wide array of products and services will be ready to visit with you. Some vendors will be
providing basic health screening at no cost.

9 am Workshops:
--Area Agency on Aging/Social Security Administration: “New to Medicare, Where Do I Start”
--Oceans: “Depression in Seniors”

10:15 am Workshops:
--Wisteria Place: “How to Juggle Medicare with Medicaid
and Assistance with Levels of Care”
--Abilene Police Department: “Avoiding Elder Fraud ”

1:45 pm Workshops:
--ACU Kinesiology: “Key Nutrients for Aging Well”
--David A. Sprott, Attorney At Law: “Wills vs. Trusts”

11:30 AM - Lunch & Town Hall Meeting

Heather Claborn joined KACU as news director in January 2018. She oversees daily newscast and feature reporting and works with KACU’s news anchors to develop newscasts. She also conducts two-way interviews, reports for newscast and feature stories and maintains the station’s social media and website content. In 2020, Claborn helped staff develop the daily newsletter that is delivered by email.
