Big Country youth makes TexaSports league history

A Wylie East 5th grader has won the TexaSports 2022 10U Scholar Athlete of the year, and the 10U Junior Heisman Trophy. Isaiah Maldonado made history in his first year in the TexaSports football league.  He’s the first ever to claim both awards in the same year.

His father, Rob Maldonado, says he watched Isaiah put a lot of hours into practice, and that he always stays dedicated. Isaiah says he is motivated by his goals for the future, “Looking at my goal and saying that’s gonna be me one day, and just keep on going.” Isaiah holds a 98% average in school, and hopes to continue as a student athlete in the future by attending the University of Oregon or the University of Alabama, “Oregon mostly because of their jerseys; I love their jerseys a lot, and Alabama because it’s super rare like you gotta be the best of the best to get there.”

Isaiah also expressed appreciation for the help he got from his coach Quincy Titus  or “Coach Q”. Coach Q says that Isaiah’s love for practice and drive for correction makes him unique as an athlete, “Honestly he’s just relentless; he's probably the most ambitious person I’ve ever met.” Isaiah impressed coaches across the league who voted to give him both awards.
