Shawnte Fleming is one of four candidates running for Place 3 on the Abilene City Council. Fleming currently is a commissioner on the City of Abilene Planning and Zoning Committee and is the founder and president of the local nonprofit Let Us Breathe, a multicultural society advocating for equality and empowerment in underserved communities. Fleming says one reason she is running is to give women and people of color a voice on the city council.
